Massage Contra-Indications
Some of our more specialist Massage Treatments will not be advised with certain medical conditions, these are indicated on the individual Treatment pages of the Massage Southampton site.
There are only a few circumstances when even gentle Massage is not appropriate and will not be performed at You Massage Therapy (see below)
In most cases, when we cannot perform Massage Therapy, we will offer a relaxing Reiki session as an alternative. Reiki can be powerfully healing and soothing and is completely non invasive and suitable for everyone.
When is it Best to Avoid Massage?
If you have an infectious skin condition (best let it heal and not share)
During the first trimester or pregnancy (best leave the body to it's own)
With Hodgkin's (lymphatic) Cancer or other Cancers present in the Lymph System (Doctor's approval required with any present Cancer please as Massage may potential cause a spread of cancerous cells through the circulatory systems)
When you have a Fever (your body is trying to isolate an infection, best let it be)
Over Hernias or Varicose Veins (Surgery may be required)
If you have a DVT or Blood Clot (Moving these are not sensible! Best see a Doctor)
Around the Joint Site with Hyper-mobile joints or Osteoporosis (we can work other areas, we are careful not to remove structural tension)
If you are having current Treatment to the Heart or Lungs (Massage can slow down the breathing and circulation)
IF YOU HAVE A LIFE THREATENING DISEASE OR SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITION, SEEK ADVICE FROM YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE RECEIVING A MASSAGE, DOCTOR'S CONSENT MAY BE REQUIRED, CONTACT US FOR MORE INFORMATION.
