Our new Osteopath Laura – an Introduction

Laura Barfi, Registered Osteopath at the GOSC and Master of Osteopathy (M.Ost) is proud to now be a part of the YOU Massage team of professionals.

Laura has advanced skills in Osteopathy, Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage.

Laura has had a keen interest in health, sport, and exercise for as long as she can remember. Going on runs with her father at the aged of eight, or playing netball for the under tens at primary school.

Laura developed in to a keen athlete playing a wide variety of different sports throughout her teens and early twenties. Her main focus being athletics and netball the latter of which she still plays today.

As an athlete Laura has first hand experience and understands the frustrations of having an injury and wanting to return to pre-injury training and fitness levels.

Laura discovered the benefits of Osteopathy after successful treatment of a long-standing netball injury. Her rehabilitation inspired her to become an Osteopath and consequently she develop an interest in treating sports injuries.

Laura qualified with a Masters from the British School of Osteopathy.

Whilst at the British School of Osteopathy Laura treated not only sports injuries but also chronic and recurrent acute conditions. She treated a wide variety of people from pregnant ladies to self employed carpenters, to people who had pain from sitting at their desks, as well as the arthritic and elderly to mention a few!

Whilst at the British School she was introduced to Cranial Osteopathy and after completing her Masters attended the Sutherland Cranial College to extend her skill and knowledge base.

Laura has sound osteopathic skills and good medical knowledge. She can treat people with musculosketletal problems who may also have underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. She can detect problems that seem to be mechanical but may in fact require a referral to the GP. Laura places particular emphasis on the ability of the human body to self-repair. She aims to remove obstructions that limit the body’s capacity to heal whilst supporting and maintaining the individual’s return to health. She strongly feels Osteopathy and conventional medicine can work together synergistically so much so she is currently studying medicine on the graduate course at Southampton university.

Laura is able to utilize her cranial, medical and osteopathic knowledge when treating patients. She uses a structural approach integrating sports massage techniques and cranial osteopathy when appropriate. She has an extensive repertoire of techniques that can be adapted to each patient’s unique needs. She advocates a holistic approach to health, integrating lifestyle and exercise advice into her osteopathic treatments.

Laura is registered with General Osteopathic Council and a member of the British Osteopathic Association.

Laura is working full time at YOU Massage over the summer, returning to part time at the beginning of the next academic year.
