What is C BD?
C BD (or Cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant (marijuana) that has been shown to help reduce pain, stress, anxiety, and inflammation — but it doesn’t get you high.
Both hemp and marijuana are Cannabis sativa plants, and both contain C BD. However, hemp has much lower levels of THC (Tetrahydro-cannabinol), the psychoactive constituent in cannabis that traditionally gets you ‘high’.
Unlike its sister compound T HC, the C BD won’t get you high at all, but it will still make you feel good! There’s still a misconception that C BD is going to get you stoned or cause psychosis, and there’s a stigma against medical marijuana, particularly in certain communities and generations. And so, it’s future lies in education, people need to understand that it’s legal. At least some of it’s legal! Cannabis is illegal in the UK for recreational use, but was made legal for medicinal use in 2018.
So how can C BD Oil in a Massage be beneficial?
All humans have an endocannabinoid system that reacts exclusively to compounds predominantly found in plants, especially the cannabis plant. When applied topically, throughout the medium of massage, C BD binds to receptors found in the skin. Through those receptors, it sends messages back through your nervous system to the brain, that trigger responses that help bring the body back to equilibrium, mitigating imbalances.
The endocannabinoid system regulates your body’s homeostasis — everything from breathing to sleep to blood pressure to inflammation to circulation. That’s why I think you should be so excited to add C BD to your massage, because it can help with all of those things besides receiving an awesome massage treatment!
There is little research available when it comes to how cannabinoids are absorbed topically, but since the skin is the biggest organ, it makes sense that so many users cite the benefits of C BD when the ingredient is applied in massage to multiple parts of the body. Consider instead; If you were to eat or drink products containing C BD, the liver breaks down a lot of it, and it is excreted, i.e. wasted! If you were to smoke or vape the C BD, much is lost in heating. When you apply C BD products directly to the skin, the C BD bypasses the digestive system and the liver and reaches the bloodstream without being broken down, thus harnessing the majority for those tired muscles and aching joints or localised issues.
C BD acts as an ‘analgesic and anti-inflammatory’ and has been known to reduce pain and inflammation when used topically. This explains why it could create a soothing and relaxing massage experience. A no-brainer really!
But not just that, C BD has been reported to be helpful for anyone that deals with; muscle inflammation, circulation issues, chronic pain, arthritis or joint conditions, headaches, fibromyalgia, nausea, anxiety, stress, PTSD, insomnia, appetite, seizures, thyroid imbalances, IBS, Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, stroke, acne, and even cancerous tumors.
Athletes are also turning to C BD for pain relief. C BD with both anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, can penetrate through the skin for isolated pain management. C BD massage could also help with sports massages and possibly help to lower healing time, allowing an athlete a lower recovery time.
But since C BD Oil Massage isn’t a Cheech and Chong situation, don’t expect to take a ‘hit’ and feel good instantly. Everyone’s endocannabinoid makeup is different, and although most feel the effects fairly quickly, for some it can take up to a few weeks for the C BD to build up and get to work.
If you’re still hazy on the details, not to worry, know that C BD products and services are not going away anytime soon. Our Massage Therapists have qualifications in medicinal canna bis and C BD oil, and is therefore well-placed to ensure that a quality C BD product is being used for massages. To maintain C BD’s true restorative properties, the integrity of the plant must be preserved, and the way the C BD and its terpenes are extracted is crucial, therefore we use reputable suppliers for Co2 extracted, supercritical, full spectrum, pure C BD Oil from Canna bis Sati va L in highly potent, therapeutic doses of 500-2,000mg in oils, cremes and balms. The CB D oil products contain only trace amounts of TH C (less than 0.2%). Currently, the UK legal limit for C BD products is 0.2 percent THC or less per container (to be classified as hemp).
