Introduction to Infrared Massage with Dessy at YOU Massage Southampton
What is infrared therapy?
Infrared therapy is a light-based method primarily used to treat pain and inflammation, but it also has many other used. Unlike ultraviolet light, which can damage the skin, infrared light enhances cell regeneration. Infrared light is delivered to the site of injury or inflammation at certain wavelengths, promoting cell repair.
In this new treatment option, Dessy offers you the opportunity to bathe under the Infrared light as part of your Deep Tissue Massage Treatment, reducing tension and aiding recovery.
What can it be used for?
Treatment with lamps emitting infrared rays has a prophylactic and infection-controlling effect. The therapy stimulates the recovery of the affected tissues, accelerates the healing of the wound, and prevents the formation of a rough scar. Infrared therapy also aids the production of new collagen in the skin.
Why use it in Massage?
The most common conditions for which the therapy is applied are:
Pain in the lower back
Certain brain injuries (for example, after a concussion)
Stiffness (a characteristic symptom of various rheumatological diseases)
As well as fatigue after strenuous physical activity.
Applying infrared light to bursitis also gives a very good result.
In cases of rheumatoid arthritis, infrared light therapy can directly reduce joint stiffness and pain.
In addition, there is an increase in blood supply, thus contributing to the removal of inflammatory infiltration.
Localised therapy with infrared rays, using light sources (lamps), gives excellent results in diseases such as:
Facial paralysis (Bell’s palsy)
Shoulder periarthritis
Sciatica
Menstrual pain
Cholecystitis
Eczema with signs of infection.
Good results are also seen in cases of post-operative infections, neurodermatitis; as well as with symptoms of frostbite with accompanying inflammation.
Another important application of therapy is to prevent muscle atrophy and tissue adhesion.
Infrared therapy is contraindicated in (not recommended for) certain diseases and conditions, such as systemic lupus, multiple sclerosis, during pregnancy. It is also not recommended for those with certain types of implants (metal nails, plates, artificial joints).
