What is Reiki?

Reiki is a safe, non-aggressive healing technique that does not involve pressure, manipulation or massage of any kind. It is a holistic energy healing system for balancing and healing both the body, emotions and spirit.

The Japanese word “Reiki” translates as Universal Life Force Energy or even Spiritual Energy. The word consists of two parts – “rei” translates as wisdom or the knowledge of the entire universe, and “ki” – life force energy.

The aura is a field of energy or light that completely surrounds the physical body. Composed of seven layers, it is not always the same size and can expand and contract, depending on various factors – health condition, emotional balance, as well as psychological attitude.

Chakras, in turn, are equivalent to the brain and major organs, and meridians correspond to veins and arteries, but instead of blood, they carry energy – Ki – throughout the body.

In order to activate the Reiki flow in the body, a preliminary setting is necessary – the so-called opening of an energy channel. Thus, through it, the energy flows from the crown chakra down to the other chakras and the hands.

The more often we apply Reiki to ourselves or others, the more its power increases. Most often, practitioners feel the energy as tingling in the palms of their hands. Stinging, vibrating or even burning may still be felt.

Often, even if a certain organ is treated, it is possible that the body will only redirect the energy to parts of it where Reiki energy is more needed.

When Reiki flows into the aura and physical body, it helps break down energy blockages and blockages, clears and balances the chakras, and strengthens the energy pathways (meridians) to allow the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way throughout the body.

About the Reiki Practitioner:

There are three levels of training in Reiki. At the first level the initial connection takes place and during the following weeks of practice the Reiki flow gains strength and within 6-8 weeks after the initiation the full flow of energy is felt.

At each level of attunement, the trainee gains the ability to draw from a higher and wider channel of Reiki healing energy, and the vibrational value of the energy body increases.

For everyone, the manifestations of unlocking the flow can be different – some say that they feel like they are “reborn”, so they feel everything around them more intensely – colors become brighter, the sense of smell increases, and sounds can become more – distinct.

Others experience a brief buzzing in the ears or increased sensitivity in the parietal chakra or even dizziness. The student may not feel anything, but this does not necessarily mean that the adjustment did not work. Reiki energy is adjusted according to the individuality of each person.

In people who have engaged in other spiritual treatments, including meditation, the body is attuned to higher energy vibrations and can absorb and channel more Reiki from the moment of attunement.

It is characteristic that animals and children begin to come more often to people who have opened their Reiki channel.

History of Hypnosis

Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815).

‘There is a consensus that the historical roots of hypnosis can be traced to eighteenth century Europe with the activities of Franz Anton Mesmer. Yet the methods and ideas of Mesmerism are so different from modern hypnosis.’

Marquis Chastenet de Puysegur – Armand-Marie-Jacques de Chastenet, (1751-1825)

The Marquis de Puysegur made a highly significant contribution to hypnosis and psychotherapy during his life. He became interested in Mesmerism through his brother Antoine-Hyacinthe, the Count of Chastenet who taught him the art.

He began to experiment with mesmerising people and quickly discovered what he termed ‘artificial somnambulism’, a very different and more peaceful state of trance to the convulsive trance that other ‘magnetised’ or ‘mesmerised’ patients would fall into. This is what was later termed ‘hypnosis’ by James Braid. He discovered this state from working with a young peasant man in his employ, Victor Race, whom he was able to ‘mesmerise’ into a calm and peaceful state, akin to sleep, but still allowing him the ability to converse with the Marquis. The substance of the trance conversation centred around an argument between Victor and his sister which was troubling him – all this he readily reported to the Marquis despite the recognised cultural inappropriateness of such an interaction at the time. Once awake, Victor had no memory of this conversation, yet nevertheless acted upon the advice (suggestion) the Marquis had given him during the trance to try to resolve the quarrel with his sister.

He recognised the necessity of the practitioner’s positive belief in the treatment being used, as well as a desire to help and heal the patient. With these two elements, Puysegursuggested, anyone could do as he did. As modern practitioners we can see the importance of this attitude in creating a positive placebo effect, as well as fostering a beneficial therapeutic relationship with the client.
