YOU Massage Therapy offers traditional Acupressure as part of a Massage in our Southampton Massage studio, Hampshire. Acupressure is a traditional technique used to help unblock energy centres in the body. The Chinese believe that the points (Acupoints) are in fact junctures of pathways (Meridians) and that they carry energy (Chi) throughout the body. In reality, these 'trigger points' can be used to release blockages and tension within the tissues, so that the life giving fluids can gain access delivering nourishment and collect waste; also, directly releases tightness in the muscle fibres which cause pressure and pain.
Acupressure has many benefits; some of which are listed below for you:
Pain relief
Relief from Headache
Relief from Migraines
Relief from Insomnia
Relief from Depression
Relief from Toothache
Relief from Dizziness
Relief from Menstrual pain
Relief from Digestive disorders including diarrhea and constipation
Relief from Nausea
Relief from Morning sickness
Relief from Motion sickness
Relief from Stress and tiredness
Acupressure can be combined with Massage, or the points can be stimulated independently. Pressure is applied for 15-30 seconds to points along the energy channels over the head and face, chest, arms, stomach, legs, feet and down the back, working away from the lymphatic nodes to encourage waste disposal. By working down the points it becomes apparent where there may be the absence of energy; where the point feels ‘hollow’ and cool, to the area of tension which can usually be felt as a fiery and active due to the blockage of energy, this point is stimulated for a further 10 -20 seconds three times. The previous acupoints are revisited to stimulate the flow of energy and balance, which can result in a release of tension unknown previously. Relief can be temporary, but once points are identified further acupressure and massage can be applied as necessary.
The YOU Massage Therapy Massage studio is centrally located in Bedford Place and is a relaxing and professional environment for your Southampton Acupressure MassageTherapy. A Traditional Acupressure Massage is based upon the principles of Chi, which underpins many of the fundamental concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The idea that this Chi energy flows through the 14 meridians of the body, delivering that life spark to organs and tissues!
During Acupressure, the pressure is applied using the fingers and thumbs to 32 specific points on the body; this relieves large amounts of tension as each point is a 'trigger release' for long ligaments, tendons, muscles and organs. Either firm pressure, repeated up to five times, or circular pressure to wind down or stimulate areas, is applied to each point depending on how they feel. The Acupressure Therapist will feel points are either 'Active' (hot and 'twitchy', representing a blockage), 'Inactive' (cold, numb and hollow; reflective of a point that is not receiving energy due to blockages somewhere down the line) or balanced (soft and warm, not requiring much attention). Acupressure offers a sense of balance clarity to you, it hits the spot, each spot, and is soothing as effective in treating specific ailments as well as detoxing the system.
