So, What Do GPs Think Of Massage?

gpA little while ago we were given the great pleasure of being involved with a workshop being run at the University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust… They had a day of training with local GPs, where their aim was to introduce them to a series of complementary therapies and see what they thought.

In addition to a number of other complementary therapies (such as colonic irrigation!) being done elsewhere around town, we had the pleasure of seeing eight GPs for Energy Healing, Deep Tissue, Shiatsu, Pregnancy Massage, Accupressure, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Hot Stones, and Indian Head Massages.

All about Lymph Drainage Massage, it’s not as scary as it sounds

Recently there’s been a local explosion in curiosity about Lymph Drainage Massage – we’ve had lots of questions, inquiries  and new clients asking all about it.  So I thought I’d dispel a couple of myths and give a bit more information to those who are curious about this very different style of massage, and let you know that it’s not only medical clients who like Lymph Drainage Massage.  There is a little physiology at the beginning, so if you’re not keen on knowing the details of how your body works, just skip those bits and read further on.

 The Lymphatic System:

Your body’s lymphatic system is your primary immune system.  It fights every bug that enters your body (no matter how it gets in), and does it’s best to drain and expel the fluid in which these external invaders and local cell wastes collect.  It is very closely linked to your circulatory system – in fact, for every blood vessel, capillary, and vein there is a lymph vessel or capillary running alongside. Pregnancy Massage – Why it’s worth your time to visit us during your prenatal months

Massage during pregnancy is definitely a lovely thing to  do – a Pregnancy Massage combines effective and safe techniques to give you time out, help you to relax, and is always organised so that you are sitting or lying in positions that are comfortable for you and your body with comfy cushions and fluffy towels.  It is also a really nice treat from friends and family, and we certainly have spouses who buy pregnancy massage gift vouchers in order to gain brownie points during times of hormones and stress!  But what are the benefits of massage during pregnancy?  Why do doctors, prenatal groups, and health advisory services recommend massage during pregnancy?  Well, here’re the answers…

There is a lot of research into Pregnancy Massage.  A number of studies have been done in the last ten years, and these studies have slowly progressed into more quantitative research methodologies, complete with control groups and comparison relaxation techniques.  And you know what?  As the research gets more intense, massage still holds its own as a beneficial treatment during pregnancy, providing worthwhile benefits to women when they need them most.

So, read on for the Research and the Facts…

Not En-Thai-erly Different: The Differences Between Northern And Southern Style Thai Massage

Thai Massage

Beautiful Thailand

We now have two lovely gentle (but strong) Thai Massage Therapists offering Thai Massage at our Southampton Massage Studio. Both Melissa and Lynn were trained in Thailand and have been passionate about this wonderful eastern massage technique for years since! It’s true that there are several places offering Thai Massage Southampton, yet we offer the diverse experience of both Southern and Northern style Thai Massage, I believe we are the only specialists offering both types of Thai Massage Hampshire!

The Thai people do not recognise a huge difference between the two, yet there are subtle variations between the two styles because of their origins and their story. This article will compare Northern and Southern Thai Massage styles, so you can be fully aware of the treatment you will indulge in when you book your Thai Massage Southampton.

What Is Hot Stone Massage?

Recently, a long-term client came in for a Holistic Massage, and while he waited we chatted about our other, newer, therapies.  He mentioned that he thought that Hot Stone Massage sounded awful – the idea of having “a bunch of rocks dumped on you to warm you up – why not just go home to a hot water bottle!”.  It turned out that he thought that Hot Stone Massage didn’t involve any massage – that it was the application of stones, without any intervention or touch from the therapist.  As this is not the case, I thought we’d better clear the air, and explain a little more about Hot Stone Massage.
