Southampton Osteopath Tim introduces himself

Joining the team at You Massage Therapy, Southampton as an Osteopath.

As a new member of the team at You Massage therapy, I was asked to write a little piece about me, so anyone interested can learn a little bit about who  I am.

Why I became an Osteopath

Tim Young OsteopathFrom a very young age I have received complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) such as osteopathy, acupuncture, chiropractic and homeopathic treatments for various different ailments. It was not until I was a teenager where I was playing sport seriously (rugby and rowing at national level) did I understand how effective these treatments were bringing me back from injury and keeping me playing and training in the sports I loved.

When leaving school the notion of becoming an osteopath had not even entered my head, not being the most academic student (I would always much rather be on a rugby pitch or in a rowing boat, than a classroom) I did not think it was attainable. Not really knowing what I wanted to do, I enrolled on a course at college gaining a BETEC National Diploma in rural studies so I could do what I liked doing best when not playing sport, which was working with animals. Unfortunately as I suffered with hayfever, it made finding employment in this field very hard (excuse the pun) so I fell into a career in construction.

Welcome Cristina

massage sportsHello, my name is Cristina, and I have just joined You Massage Therapy as a Sport Massage Therapist.

Sport and health are the two areas I have always been very interested in. After finishing school, I moved to Chieti (Italy), looking for a good Sport Science program at the university. During my three years of the undergraduate course, I started exploring the basic of Sport Science and also went deeper into some fields. I was really excited by  most of the subjects I was studying, particularly anatomy, neuro-anatomy, physiology and sport performance.

I graduated in February 2006, and my final thesis was about “Shoulder impingement syndrome”.

Southampton Acupuncturist, Sharon, has written an introduction to her services.

Book your Acupuncture treatment today at an introductory rate by clicking the link or calling 02380 639747

“Hi, my name is Sharon Bradbear, and I am a qualified acupuncturist.  My working life had previously been in admin, which although I enjoyed, I never really found the work satisfying or particularly rewarding.  I did notice though that I felt better about my work whenever I was employed by an industry that served the public in some way, such as the NHS or Education.   So the seeds of looking for a new career were sown.  My path then crossed that of someone who owns a clinic where at that time, they were primarily treating people with sports injuries, and I began to be fascinated by the treatments that were available to people and the positive effect these treatments had.

So I started to focus my research for a new career on something I could do to help people back to health whilst working in a clinic environment, and my research came back to acupuncture again and again.   At this point, I had heard of acupuncture but never tried it myself.

We now offer Acupuncture in Southampton!

In January 2014 – YOU Massage welcome Sharon – BSc (Hons) Lic Ac MBAcC and Member of the British Acupuncture Council – to our Southampton studio!

Here, she introduces this effective and popular Therapy and tells us a little about its History:

Introduction to Acupuncture

Acupuncture was first written down 3,000 years ago, and is believed to have been practiced 1,000s of years before this – no-one really knows how old it is.

At its base is heat (Yang) and cold (Yin).  It is the interaction of heat and cold that produces energy (Qi).  When the heat and cold interactions fall short for any reason the energy flow is affected, and disease results.

Hot weather affects us (sun burn, heat stroke, prickly heat) as does cold weather (coughs, colds, flue).

Our emotions, when held long term, are also considered to cause ill health as they affect the flow of energy.  Lifestyle (burning the candle at both ends) and diet (poor, insufficient, excess) are also injurious to health.

Acupuncturists treat everything that ‘Western’ medicine treats, and both have their strengths and weaknesses.   Western medicine is remarkable for the many killer diseases it has all but eradicated and people with quite serious debilitating diseases now go on to lead longer and almost normal lives.  Chinese medicine comes into its own with the day to day diseases that are difficult to treat by Western medicine alone.  Pain within or without anywhere in the body from any cause, addiction, allergies, anxiety and depression, circulation issues, digestive disorders, gynecological disorders, immune disorders, problems affecting the skin to name a few.

Our Gift Vouchers

GV emailDeciding on a gift or a treat is not always the easiest thing to do especially if it’s a person who you haven’t known very long.  With Christmas coming up it’s time to start thinking about our loved ones and finding them the perfect gift to say Thank you and I love you.

But where do you start? You could trawl around the shops for a few weeks looking at a whole bunch of “pretty good” ideas or you spend your evenings on the net searching for “great Christmas gifts for….”.

After all that you might be lucky and the “gift” but sometimes we buy things which we think are awesome (secretly may have bought it so we can have a go) but unfortunately they may not. We’ve all done it, bought a gift and then spent the next few weeks wondering whether it’s the right thing after all.

Consultation Forms

Consultation forms are used commonly in settings where information about an individual needs to be gathered such as at an Osteopath, Physiotherapist or a Massage therapist.
The initial part of a consultation form is a patient’s personal details; full name, address, phone numbers, emergency contacts etc. This information will be gathered onto our client base so that if the patient was to return it would make accessing their details a lot quicker, easier and would save time.
