Acupressure and Acupuncture are essentially a technique used to access and release blocked or congested energy centers in the body. Chinese cultures believe the points to be junctures of ‘meridian pathways’ that carry energy, or life force, called Chi. Modern scientists have also map out and prove the existence of these points using electrical devices, thatthey relate directly to the lymphatic and structural design of the body. Relaxing and Body Balancing, a great way of combating Stress and Tension, some have commented that they feel it’s a more effective technique of releasing tension than Deep Tissue Massage, but that would depend on the individual, we will happily advise on the best treatment for you or design a bespoke Massage session.
Acupressure uses thumb pressure, Acupuncture uses hair fine needles.
The Traditional Acupressure and Acupuncture is based on the principles of Chi, which is a fundamental concept of the Traditional Chinese Medicine; that energy flows through the fourteen meridians of the body, delivering life and nourishment. Working on the same ‘map’ as Eastern Acupuncture, finger pressure or a small needle is applied to a number of points along the body to relieve great amounts of tension and treat specific ailments. There are about 365 acupoints (or ‘tsubos’) in total, although only 32 are used in Acupressure; many more in Acupuncture; each a delicate nerve ending which acts as valves to stimulate the flow of chi (energy) through the meridians (energy channels), and rebalance the body’s internal network. The traditional key focus of this treatment is to harmonize the body and balance out the ‘Yin and Yang’ which are opposite, yet complimentary forces believed to underline all aspects of life. This compromises both the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous systems, which is important for general well being and tranquility.
The accumulation of toxins in muscle tissue causes stiffness throughout the body and puts abnormal pressure on the nerves, resulting in tension and lack of feeling; caused by tight muscle fibres restricted the fluid from passing through the tissue to collect debris and deliver proteins and vitamins via the blood and lymph vessels. This in turn can also affect both muscular and skeletal systems and internal organ functioning. Acupressure and Acupuncture promotes natural self-curative abilities by removing blockages via ‘trigger points’ that act as a release valve to particular muscles and tissue which diffuses the toxic build up that accumulates by allowing normal circulation. These trigger points also seem to have a direct influence on release of tension within the tendons and ligaments; when applied correctly, one point can relieve tension throughotu limbs, the neck and pelvis.
