Painful Shoulders, Neck and Back : THE HOLISTIC BACK MASSAGE
Quite often, as you may be aware, as a result of the job that you do, whiplash, or an injury, a person can suffer with discomfort in areas of their back, ranging from a dull ache to chronic pain. To treat such symptoms we would suggest The Holistic Back Massage, the Essential Oils can be blended to acts as an Analgesic (pain killer) and a Relaxant (to soften muscles), and then applied with Holistic and Deep Tissue Massage techniques. We will start by stroking and kneading the area to gently soften the muscle tissue and drain away any swelling so we are able to seek out the adhesions, or knots, that can inflict pressure on the surrounding muscles, tendons and bones causing pain and difficult movement, during this period, we can also survey your bone structure to let you know if you may need to seek the help of a Chiropractor as well, althpugh often once the muscles are released the bone posture returns to normal. During the first session we are usually able to reduce what we like to refer to as ‘surface tension’, which can be felt as a ‘crunchy’ texture within the muscles and relax firm areas by applying careful Acupressure and kneading, the dispersed tension releases toxins which have been held in the muscle that we then drain away. After this process, it may be necessary to continue with some Remedial techniques such as Neuromuscular Technique, Soft Tissue Release, Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy Techniques and so on; either during the first session or, if the area is still slightly swollen from the first go we may spend the time draining the muslces and suggest you come back a week later so as not to damage any of the tender tissue which could need time to heal. This technique, we are proud to say, is nearly always successful in treating even the oldest of muscular tension, you may need to visit us up to four times weekly to get the best from the technique but we promise you relief after the first session, we then would suggest you visit us monthly for ‘maintenance’ sessions to stop tension from building up. It’s important to drink plenty of water after a massage session where tension is targeted, see Aftercare on more advice on what can help.
Muscular Stress as a Result of Exercise: SPORTS MASSAGE
If a person exercises regularly, such as running or weight lifting, this can put a lot of strain on the muscles as they change to maintain your fitness. It’s very important to stretch before and after a fitness session as this encourages your muscles to elongate and grow, a form of Pilates is a brilliant way of maintaining strength and flexibility, and massage can be vital in building a functioning and pain free muscular system as it softens, releases tension and stretches the areas for best performance and appearance. We’d suggest regular Sports Massage for anyone who wants to get the most out of their fitness regime as it helps muscles be in the very best condition, stronger, more flexible and toned, it’s great for pre-event as brings energy to the muscles, as well as post event as effectively lengthens and drains lactic acid.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome / Digestive Discomfort REFLEXOLOGY AND HOLISTIC MASSAGE AND Aromatherapy
People aren’t always aware that Holistic Massage and/or Reflexology can be applied to ease the symptoms of IBS, an illness often caused by food intolerances and/or stress which can result in stomach cramps, constipation or diarrhea and feeling down right miserable! Abdomen Massage, applied in a specific way, softens the tense muscles in the area and encourages a natural and normal flow of the digestive system, I’ll also stimulate a couple of pressure points within the area that are really effective at relaxing the system and easing pain and tension, this can be combined with a full body or back massage to work the system from the back also, and can be even more effective when applied with Essential Oils, these can assist with the natural flow and ease nausea and bloating. Reflexology can also be a highly effective form of treatment for blocked bowels, as it can encourage clearance through active stimulation.
Pre Menstrual Syndrome REFLEXOLOGY AND HOLISTIC MASSAGE AND Aromatherapy
Women often suffer with their monthly cycle, bloating, cramps, poor complexion, tenderness and emotional tension are all symptoms that can arise, for some ladies on a monthly basis. we have a few ladies currently who visit me each month to ease such discomforts, we am hopeful that they may find some long term relief from their continued treatment, they all report massive relief in symptoms during and immediately after treatments. I’d usually advise Holistic massage to relax the person fully, this could start with a facial if there’s skin complaints and continue to the abdomen to comfort, reduce bloating and relax muscles, and finish on the back as this is often where the pain is at it’s worst, we would advise using Aromatherapy oils to encourage a light and natural flow, ease pain and soften muscles, many oils have emmenagogue properties, which means they encourage a normal menstrual flow. Reflexology is also a really effective way of easing symptoms of PMS, as we often find a noticeable difference in the feet of a lady who is suffering in this way, and they often report immediate relief after we have stimulated the area, to get the most out of Reflexology during your visit a full session can be combined with a full body massage in 90 minutes, otherwise part-reflexology and part-massage can be done in an hour.
Swelling and Cellulite: LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Lymphatic Drainage Massage when combined with Aromatherapy can offer instant relief from swollen areas of the body or a build up of toxins, often presented as cellulite. This form of massage is very light and soothing, and works by stroking the lymph below the skin toward the nearest lymph nodes, some Essential Oils can be applied to increase the circulation to encourage this flow. When tackling cellulite, we’ll often use citrus oils as these aid the breakdown of fat deposits, as well as diuretic oils to increase the flow of water through your body, it’s important to drink plenty of water after a treatment. Areas such as this can be tackled with a tapotement technique to firstly soften and break down the stubborn areas.
Depression and Fatigue: HOLISTIC MASSAGE
Massage can be wonderfully beneficial for a troubled mind, if somebody has been recently suffering from depression, anxiety or mental fatigue, we will usually suggest an Aromatherapy Massage, starting on the face and scalp and finishing on the back, incorporating arms, legs and feet, can offer a feeling of comfort, safety and a real top to toe treat. Oils can be combined to relax and sedate or to warm and stimulate, depending on the individual. we will also work Acupressure points throughout your body to encourage the flow of natural energy throughout your being, this on it’s own can be highly effective as often we are not aware of certain blockages that can manifest during periods of tension that can cut of vital energy from parts of our body and mind.
