How does Laser Hair Removal Work THIS TREATMENT MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE AT THE MOMENT PLEASE CALL TO INQUIRE 02380 639747

Laser hair removal can be performed on any area of the body, including sensitive areas such as the bikini, areola, underarms, face.

Laser Hair Removal must be performed when the hair is in its active stage.  Not all the hair is at the same stage, so this is why a course of treatments is necessary to catch the hairs at the correct stage (growth phase).

The hair growth cycle has 3 stages:

Anagen (growth):  this is where the hair is in its active stage, and the only phase when Laser can destroy the hair at the roots.  Results are amazing when the hairs are destroyed during this phase, because the hair root is destroyed at the blood supply.  The heat from the Laser is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, and then transmitted to the Papilla.  The hair typically grows 1cm a month.

Catagen phase (transitional): Laser hair removal is not effective in this stage as the follicle shrinks, and the Papilla detaches itself from the follicle, resulting in the hair strand being cut off from its blood supply.  The Follicle then starts to renew itself.  This phase typically lasts about two weeks.

Telogen phase (shedding/resting ):  the follicle is dormant in this phase, which can last around one to four months, therefore Laser hair removal would not work.  As much as 80% of hair can be in this phase at a time.  The hair will detach from its root, which results in shedding.  Once the Telogen phase is over, the hair shaft will begin to emerge, and the process begins again.

The Phases can vary from person to person, but I will assess your hair during the Consultation, so that you will achieve the best results.

Laser damages large areas at a time, unlike electrolysis which only treats one hair at a time.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) can have a dramatic effect on the body’s natural hormone levels, resulting in excessive hair growth.  The good news is – we can treat PCOS with laser, and in many cases, people with this condition are treated successfully.  Although there may not be 100% hair loss, and more treatments, and maintenance may be required, hairs will be finer, lighter and less growth will occur.  It can also be life changing for people suffering with PCOS as facial and body hair can be significantly reduced quickly, and effectively, giving those who live with the condition more confidence.

Results can be amazing, but maintenance treatments may be required every 12 – 15 weeks indefinitely, especially in the facial area.

Q & A’s:

How does light-assisted

Hair Removal work?

Light is selectively absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair follicle.  The light energy heats the pigment, and effectively destroys the hair follicle, without damaging the surrounding cells.  The dual wavelength technology in modern lasers means that we can work on all skin types, rather than only fair skin, and dark hair.
