The Acupuncture Treatment Plan

At YOU Massage, Southampton, we offer a discount for clients who wish to book a course of Acupuncture treatments in a block. This is because several sessions are advised for you to feel the benefit from the Acupuncture.

A course of Acupuncture begins with a 90 minute session which is your initial consultation and first treatment. It is then preceded by more sessions to continue with the therapy.

The Initial Consultation

The first session begins with a consultation which can take up to around 45 minutes. Our Acupuncturist, Sharon, is very thorough and extremely dedicated to assuring she provides you with the best course of treatment for you.  To determine this she takes down details of your health and history to get a clear picture on the elements that may be factoring with your condition.

The job of an acupuncturist is to elicit all the relevant information from the patient about their health from birth to date, to find out how your body works, its strengths, its weaknesses. Details such as your parents and siblings health, as well as how you relate to the world via friends, partners and your school life, are all relevant to the acupuncturist, as it offers an insight into your emotions as well as your body health issues.

The Treatment Plan

Once all the information is gathered, a unique treatment plan is devised for you.  Each week you will be asked how you felt after the last treatment – better/worse/no change – so that the acupuncturist can begin to select the points that work for you, and to fine-tune your treatment plan.  Each of these treatments last 45 minutes, sometimes less.

How many sessions will I need?

Patients always ask “how many treatments will I need?” and the answer is difficult to say exactly as every patient is different.  Most patients begin to feel better straight after the first treatment, with many reporting improved sleep, more ability to cope, a reduction in symptoms.   Acupuncture accumulates in the system much like a course of medicine so by the time you have had 3 or 4 treatments, better health will be experienced.  Treatment can then be fortnightly and then reduced still further as the better health holds steady with no relapse.   Six to  8 treatments  over 10 to 12 weeks can be all that it takes to be well.

Many people have acupuncture on a regular basis just because it makes them feel so well.  It can also act as a preventative, and it is the job of an acupuncturist is to advise on diet and lifestyle to keep you well going forward.
