I incorporate functional and correctional exercises into my aftercare and use various techniques including Sports Massage, Remedial Massage, Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Massage, Tool Assissted Myofascial Release, Muscle Release &
Lengthening Techniques and Neuromuscular Techniques (NMT) such as Trigger Point Therapy to help the body readjust back to a natural, more functional position.
Myofascia is the connective tissue (fascia) in and around muscles, where muscles are the powerhouses of locomotion and posture for the body. Myofascial release is an application used to alleviate tension, restrictions and adhesions in the myofascia in order to restore balance and function.
A corrective exercise by its simplest definition is a movement or exercise chosen to correct a specific movement or muscle dysfunction. This in turn can correct posture to prevent injuries, pain and muscle spasms.
Massage is one of man’s oldest healing methods and can assist in the recovery of a wide variety of different injury problems. Sports & Remedial Massage is a form of deep tissue massage and it works by encouraging the body to heal itself. It does this by increasing blood flow to injured areas bringing much needed nutrients and improving circulation in the body generally. It also mobilises toxins that build up in tight muscles allowing the body to remove them naturally.
Back problems top the list of common health complaints in the UK. Many people find that back pain restricts their everyday life and leisure activities. Sports massages from a qualified therapist can greatly ease back and joint pain and increase movement and energy levels. Sports massage can also aid with sleep problems and headaches.
The EDGE Tool is a great painless method of increasing mobility and flexibility. It does this by removing restrictions from the muscle fascia which is a type of connective tissue found in the musculoskeletal system. This fascia can become ‘sticky’ or restricted for several reasons, the most common are exercise, general daily use or limited movement or use of that particular area or muscle group. Using this tool the majority of patients notice an improvement instantly.
When not working, I have played 11 aside and 5 aside football in my 20’s and have played golf since my teens. I also enjoy walking our two dogs in the New Forest with a good country pub at the end!
