Hayfever Blog By Elizabeth

relaxing nature blogWhat is Hayfever?

Otherwise known as allergic rhinitis or pollinosis, hayfever is an allergic reaction triggered by allergens such as dust, pollen, mites, grasses, moulds, animal fur/hair and/or air pollution. The condition tends to occur seasonally with outdoor allergens and at any time to those found indoors but can also happen at any time of year too.

Hayfever occurs when allergens become trapped in the fine hairs and mucous membranes of the nasal passages, mouth, throat and lungs. The immune system reacts by stimulating the release of the antibody Immunoglobin E (IgE), which is designed to fight and eliminate the allergens. Histamine is then released from the IgE to flush the allergens out of the airways, which produces a list of symptoms described below.

Symptoms of Hayfever

Common symptoms of Hayfever include:

  • Coughing
  • Headaches
  • Sneezing
  • Sore throat
  • Itching of nose, mouth, eyes, throat, ear and skin
  • Impaired smell
  • Wheezing
  • Red and watery eyes
  • Stuffy and runny nose
  • Fatigue
  • Sleeping problems.

The therapeutic aromas of essential oils may relieve hayfever attacks. They are best heated in an oil burner, inhaled on a hanky or over a steaming bucket of hot water. Popular essential oils for hayfever include:

  • Eucalyptus
  • Niaouli
  • Tee Tree oil
  • Roman chamomile
  • Lemon
  • Lavender
  • Geranium
  • Rosemary
  • Peppermint

Aromatherapy can also be used around the areas that are being massaged with will hopefully unblock any areas as the treatment is in place. However if you are pregnant you shouldn’t use certain oils due to the baby and them being harmful.aroma citrus
When a client comes in to see me I will make sure I can do my best to feel where the fluid is built up and drain the areas correctly making sure the client feels some immediate relieve. A face massage and acupuncture techniques can be used by finding all the points that will help to drain away any fluid that is built up and struggling to drain on its own.

Throughout the head area are certain points that myself or another therapist can apply just like a therapist would with a needle but instead with their thumb to release any tension in that area or drain anything that feels blocked. By using these techniques it can help you to feel better much quicker and relieve any unnecessary pain or pressure built up.

A good massage for Hayfever would probably be Indian head massage and neck shoulders and back as this would ease out all the tension in the surrounding areas along with draining any areas that feel blocked.

Another treatment that will help with Hayfever is reflexology; Reflexology helps the body restore its balance naturally and therefore is useful at relieving the symptoms of hay fever. Reflexology can also boost your immune system and reduce stress levels, which can help prevent symptoms occurring.

Massage is great for anything but light stroking movements help you to relax as well, reducing stress levels and improving the metabolic system. These movements will help to push any unwanted fluid to the thoracic duct where I or another therapist will  be working helping to clear everything out, you should even be able to feel the difference after the treatment, maybe a blocked nose becomes unblocked?

Come and see for yourself at just how affective I am at relieving sinus and Hayfever symptoms.
